Tatenda is a People & Organisational Development Business Partner at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Prior to this, he was an Associate HR Business Partner at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and earlier in his career held several roles at Barts Health NHS Trust across Recruitment, Employee Relations and the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion team. With over eight years’ experience across multiple NHS Trusts, he brings a strong foundation in workforce strategy, organisational development and inclusive people practice.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tatenda was part of the workforce project team at Barts Health supporting the rapid deployment of staff to the NHS Nightingale Hospital London, contributing to one of the most significant workforce mobilisation efforts in NHS history.
Tatenda is a forward-thinking HR professional with a particular passion for Cultural Intelligence and its role in shaping inclusive, high-performing workplaces across the employee lifecycle. As BME Staff Network Site Lead at The Royal London Hospital, he led site-wide engagement initiatives focused on representation, cultural awareness and inclusive practice. He also launched Cultural Intelligence as a module for newly qualified nurses within their preceptorship programme. He later became a Lead Facilitator on Barts Health’s largest Cultural Intelligence programme under the leadership of Bernadette Thompson—a programme that went on to receive national recognition at the HPMA Awards.
In 2024, Tatenda was recognised with the KPMG Rising Star Award at the HPMA Awards for his growing impact within the HR profession. Alongside his corporate role, he mentored with Generation Success, delivering career development workshops and interview preparation support within the NHS.
Tatenda has been a community basketball coach for over a decade and is a qualified National League Level 2 coach. Through sport, he has consistently created inclusive spaces for young people, using coaching as a platform to build confidence, discipline and community cohesion.
Alongside his community leadership, Tatenda speaks on Cultural Intelligence not simply as a concept, but as a practical lever for strengthening leadership capability, improving systems and driving better organisational outcomes.
