Patrick Foster is a motivational speaker, mental health advocate, and the founder of GAM-Ed, an education provider grounded in lived experience and dedicated to bringing human-centred learning into workplaces and schools. Patrick’s work is driven by a clear mission: to break the silence and isolation that so often surround mental health and addiction. Through honest, courageous conversations, he challenges stigma and reframes help-seeking not as weakness, but as an act of strength and leadership.

A former professional cricketer, insurance broker, and independent schoolteacher, Patrick appeared to embody success. Raised in a supportive environment and achieving early career milestones, few could have predicted the internal struggle unfolding beneath the surface. Over time, a gambling addiction took hold, ultimately bringing him to the brink of suicide in 2018. With the right support, Patrick rebuilt his life. In doing so, he gained deep insight into the nature of addiction and its far-reaching impact. That journey became his purpose: using lived experience to help individuals and organisations build cultures that are open, compassionate, and genuinely connected. In his presentations, Patrick goes beyond personal storytelling. He explores how mental health challenges and addiction affect not only individuals, but also families, teams, and communities. Audiences leave with practical, actionable strategies for recognising early warning signs, supporting those who may be struggling, and fostering environments where honesty, empathy, and psychological safety can thrive.

A central theme of Patrick’s work is helping organisations distinguish between everyday stress or anxiety and more serious mental health concerns. Building this understanding ensures that significant issues are recognised early—without diminishing the importance of mental wellbeing at any level. Patrick also challenges conventional narratives around addiction. While often viewed solely through a negative lens, he highlights how the underlying traits—intensity, focus, ambition, and resilience—can become powerful strengths when guided by self-awareness and support. Many high-performing individuals share this wiring; learning to harness it positively can unlock extraordinary purpose, performance, and potential.
